HOUSTON — The Carya String Quartet (Eugeniu Cheremoush and Laura Cividino, violins; Rainey Weber, viola; and Sonya Matoussova, cello) will launch their second season with three events from October 10 to 12.
On Thursday, October 10, the public is invited to join the Carya String Quartet at Bar Boheme to raise a glass and raise money to support the season through the Cultured Cocktails program sponsored by Boheme and Fresh Arts. The 5:00-8:00 pm happy hour will include a preview performance by the quartet, a raffle for tickets to upcoming concerts, and an opportunity to get to know the musicians.
The festivities continue on Friday, October 11, at 7:00 pm at Archway Gallery with the first performance of “Dedications,” a program which explores how cross-cultural and cross-generational influences can inspire the creator and the listener.
Finally, at 6:30 pm on Saturday, October 12, the Carya String Quartet will throw a party at the Virtuosi of Houston Studio. The evening will include a full performance of “Dedications,” a raffle, and a silent auction. Admission to both the October 11 and October 12 performances will be by voluntary contribution (suggested amount $20 adults/$10 for students). All money raised during the Season Opening weekend will support upcoming concerts for the year, as well as the quartet’s educational initiatives.
The 2019-2020 season will continue on November 22 with a performance of “Dedications” at New Hope Lutheran Church, as part of their Phil Kramer Recital Series. In February of 2020, the Carya Quartet will present “Sea Changes,” a program which explores how the immigrant experience shapes musical identity. In May of 2020, the quartet will present their final program of the season: “Indigo Impressions,” which delves into the confluence of Jazz and the Impressionist Movement. Additionally, on May 15, 2020, the Carya String Quartet will join forces with the Westheimer String Quartet for a performance of the beloved Mendelssohn Octet at the MATCH. Details for all concerts can be found on www.caryaquartet.org/events.
“I am truly excited about our programs for this second season,” says violinist Laura Cividino. “The variety of the pieces we will perform offer something for every ear. There will be classical music works from different eras— classical to contemporary— as well as folk and pop inspired works. I am equally excited about our collaborative concert with Westheimer String Quartet, which will bring us to perform together in the heart of Houston!” The majority of concerts presented by the Carya String Quartet are free to the public and presented in multiple locations, increasing accessibility both financially and geographically for their audience. Donations can be made to support the Carya String Quartet’s mission through their fiscal sponsor, Fresh Arts, at https://www.fresharts.org/fiscal-sponsorship-donations/.
